Music For Animals took shape in late 2004 in San Francisco, Ca when vocalist Jayson Martinovich and bassist Eli Meyskens split with their old band, One of Many, in search of a different sound. They searched out new members and quickly found guitarist Nick Bray, whose personality and tasteful playing had left an impression on them years earlier. The last member to be added turned out to be a craigslist gem, a recent Pittsburgh transplant drummer searching for a band online. After a lot of wooing and courting the boys won Ryan Malley over and he proved to be the deciding factor in which direction the band was headed by serving as the backbone and pulse to mfa's rhythm heavy sound. The band made a name for itself quickly in 2005 by winning a Battle of the Bands in San Francisco, which allowed them to open for Chicago rockers OK GO. From there the band moved on to open for Mando Diao and The Lashes then on to tour California to spread their music from Sacramento to San Diego. The band has since gone on to spread their sound from Denver to Seattle, Portland and even to the far off barren towns of Utah. In between these tours the band recorded and self released their debut EP "Transmission" in Spring 2006 and followed up with a full length album put out on Three Ring Records in Spring 2007. In 2007 Music For Animals self-titled release got heavy rotation on over 200 college stations and charted in the top 200 on CMJ. The band has also been featured on multiple podcasts including indiefeed.com and in the San Francisco Chronicle's Bay Area Bandwidth. *Bands you may know, that we have shared beer-laden stages with: OKGO, Mando Diao, The Lashes, The Mooney Suzuki, The Photo Atlas, Cloud Cult, U.S.E, Transfer.
