Ty Segall – “It #1″
Burying 60s sing-alongs and dance crazes with waves of reverb and thud, Ty Segall is carving out his own brand of neo-psych garage alongside SF compatriots and collaborators Sic Alps and Thee Oh Sees. After clawing his way out of the Bay Area garage scene with a frantic one-man-band act that the local crowd and press couldn’t get enough of, Segall has now given up the solo act for a three piece that destroys sonic and melodic boundaries with manic glee.
“Ty Segall is a phenomenon in a bite-size package. He plays guitar and drums, and howls like a wolf in awe of the moon. His boyish good looks, sky-blue eyes and fever shakes may make you swoon, but it’s his lustrous croons and garage rock songs awash in boisterous distorted noise that will make you take notice.” (SF Chronicle)
“With this one-two punch, Segall enters a lo-fi field crowded with artists mining similar influences for inspiration and making similarly compact noise. What distinguishes him from his peers, however, is his ability to instill his songs with a palpable creative zeal, as if the final recordings were less important than the process of performing them. All of his noble goals of prolificacy and spontaneity would be meaningless if his energy and excitement didn’t cut through the noise loud and clear.” (Pitchfork)
